This seems to be a combination of the stupidest criminals in the world and crimes gone bad. The cartel sent a man out to handle it because they had a target they wanted to get rid of. Instead of a drive-by, a grenade was intended to be thrown into the target’s home. The obvious is what could go wrong, and that’s what did. The grenade wasn’t thrown because the boss forgot to. He was thus destroyed by explosion.

Simply, the plan was to throw a grenade into the target’s house. However, the plan ended up not being so simple. Of all things, the man forgot to throw the grenade. As a result, he blew up himself, and five other people in the car.
